100W e-marked USB-C cable

100W USB-C Power Delivery is 20V × 5A. Passive USB-C cables top out at 60W (20V/3A); anything above 3A needs an electronic marker (e-marker) rated for 5A. USB-IF labels certified C-to-C cables 60W or 240W — a 60W-marked cable will cap a 100W charger.

Why 100W needs an e-marker

USB Type-C / Power Delivery: a 100W contract is 20 volts at 5 amps. Cables that carry more than 3A must include an electronic marker chip so the charger and laptop negotiate the higher current safely. Without that chip, the link stays in the 3A / 60W class even if the brick is rated 100W.

USB-IF’s cable and connector program requires USB-C to USB-C cables in the certification program to be labeled 60W or 240W (see usb.org/cable_connector, accessed 7 Sep 2026). Shop the label on the cable, not marketing copy that only says “fast charge.”

Apple fast charge and cables

Apple Support 102378 (fast charge your MacBook Air or MacBook Pro) lists a USB-C charge cable or MagSafe 3 cable with the appropriate adapter. For 16-inch MacBook Pro (November 2023 and later), Apple lists the 240W USB-C Charge Cable with the 140W USB-C Power Adapter for fast charge.

Apple’s shop listing for the 240W USB-C Charge Cable (2 m), part MYQT3AM/A, states it supports charging up to 240W. That is a cable, not a charger — pair it with a brick that can deliver the watts you need (see 100W and 140W).
