Full answer

A 140W USB-C Power Delivery charger is Apple’s recommended adapter for 16-inch MacBook Pro (2021 or later). It is above USB PD 3.0’s 100W (20V/5A) ceiling: the 140W contract is PD 3.1 (28V/5A). Pair it with the right cable — an e-marked / 240W-labeled USB-C cable, or Apple’s MagSafe 3 140W cable.

Apple recommends a 140W USB-C Power Adapter with a USB-C to MagSafe 3 cable for 16-inch MacBook Pro models introduced in 2021 or later. Fast charge for that size is listed with the 140W adapter (and, for Nov 2023 or later 16-inch units, a 240W USB-C charge cable as an alternate cable). 14-inch Pros can also fast charge from 140W, but their recommended adapters are 67W / 70W / 96W. A generic 100W GaN brick will still charge a 16″ Pro over USB-C PD, per Apple’s “higher or lower wattage” note — it is not the recommended 140W pack.

  • Laptop Dell XPS 13 (45W / 60W / 65W manuals) Adapter 45W, 60W, or 65W USB Type-C by model Why Above the XPS 13 adapter tables. Use USB PD; Dell may cap non-Dell adapters in BIOS — see Dell KB 000226078.

Cable: e-marked 240W USB-C or MagSafe 3 140W

140W USB-C PD needs the right cable. USB PD 3.0 tops out at 100W (20V × 5A). 140W is a PD 3.1 Extended Power Range contract (28V × 5A). That still needs a 5A e-marked cable. USB-IF labels certified USB-C to USB-C cables as 60W (3A) or 240W (5A). A 60W-marked cable will cap you well below 140W.

Apple’s own options, from Support 102378:

  • USB-C to MagSafe 3 Cable with the 140W USB-C Power Adapter — recommended for 16-inch MacBook Pro (2021 or later), and listed for fast charge on Air and 14-inch Pro too.
  • 240W USB-C Charge Cable with the 140W adapter — listed as an alternate for MacBook Pro (16-inch, Nov 2023) or later.

Do not reuse a 60W (3A) USB-C cable and expect 140W. Anker’s 140W listing uses 28V⎓5A on C1/C2; pair it with a 240W-labeled USB-C cable. See how to pick.
