Full answer
Apple’s tech specs for the 14-inch MacBook Pro (M4, 2024) list a 70W USB-C Power Adapter and a USB-C to MagSafe 3 Cable (2 m) in the box, and say “Fast-charge capable with 96W USB-C Power Adapter.” The 14-inch MacBook Pro (M4 Pro or M4 Max, 2024) specs list a 70W adapter with M4 Pro (12-core CPU) and a 96W adapter with M4 Pro (14-core CPU) or M4 Max; those pages say fast-charge capable with 96W or higher.
So a USB-C PD charger of 70W or more matches the lowest in-box adapter, and a 96W, 100W or 140W USB-C PD charger is the fast-charge class. MagSafe 3 and the Thunderbolt (USB-C) ports accept charging. A higher-watt USB-C PD charger is safe — the Mac only draws what it needs. Looking for the older hub page that covers the same family: MacBook Pro 14 charger. Method for any laptop: how to pick.

Fast charge (96W and up)
Fast charge on MacBook Pro 14 (M4 family)
Apple’s base M4 tech specs say the 14-inch MacBook Pro is fast-charge capable with a 96W USB-C Power Adapter. The M4 Pro / M4 Max page says 96W or higher. Apple’s fast-charge article (102378) lists 96W and 140W USB-C adapters (with MagSafe 3 or a USB-C charge cable) among the combinations used for 14-inch MacBook Pro testing.
The in-box 70W adapter on the base M4 / M4 Pro 12-core is the include class, not the fast-charge class on those configs. Apple doesn’t name third-party chargers; a 100W USB-C PD charger delivers more than the 96W Apple lists.
