Full answer

Apple’s 2024 16-inch MacBook Pro tech specs list a 140W USB-C Power Adapter and a USB-C to MagSafe 3 Cable in the box for both M4 Pro and M4 Max, and state the laptop is fast-charge capable with that included 140W adapter. MagSafe 3 and the Thunderbolt USB-C ports can all take charge. Full method for reading any brick: how to pick. Nearby shopping class: 140W.

Included adapters (16-inch, M4 Pro / M4 Max, 2024)

From Apple Support tech specs for MacBook Pro (16-inch, 2024) (document 121554), accessed 5 Sep 2026. Battery and Power lists the same include for M4 Pro and M4 Max. The box also includes a USB-C to MagSafe 3 Cable (2 m).

  • Config M4 Pro (all configs) Included adapter 140W USB-C Power Adapter Also in the box USB-C to MagSafe 3 Cable (2 m) Battery 100-watt-hour lithium-polymer; fast-charge capable with included 140W
  • Config M4 Max (all configs) Included adapter 140W USB-C Power Adapter Also in the box USB-C to MagSafe 3 Cable (2 m) Battery 100-watt-hour lithium-polymer; fast-charge capable with included 140W

Unlike the 14-inch Pro (70W or 96W by chip), every 16-inch M4 Pro / M4 Max ships with 140W. A 100W GaN brick can still charge over USB-C PD, but it is not Apple’s included or recommended 140W pack.

Fast charge (140W class)

Fast charge (140W class)

Apple’s fast-charge article (102378, accessed 5 Sep 2026) covers 16-inch MacBook Pro introduced in 2021 or later: up to about 50% battery in around 30 minutes with the right adapter and cable.

  • Adapters Apple lists for 16″ Pro 2021+ 140W USB-C Power Adapter Cable USB-C to MagSafe 3 Cable; or 240W USB-C Charge Cable on 16″ Pro Nov 2023 or later Result ~50% in ~30 minutes (Apple’s wording; charge time varies)
  • Displays Apple lists Apple Studio Display XDR + Thunderbolt cable Shopping class 140W matches the include; 100W is below Apple’s recommended class for daily 16″ Pro use Reminder 140W needs PD 3.1 (28V/5A) on the brick and an e-marked / 240W-labeled USB-C cable if you skip MagSafe 3
  • Ports that take charge MagSafe 3 charging port Also Three Thunderbolt 5 (USB-C) ports support Charging (121554) Note Same MagSafe 3 + Thunderbolt charging pattern as 14″ M4 Pro / Max
What wattage to buy

What wattage to buy

Match what you lost, or keep the 140W class if you want Apple’s published fast-charge path. Links go to our wattage pages or Apple’s OEM SKU class.

  • If you lost… The included 140W cube Buy Apple 140W OEM, or shop nearby 140W GaN — remember third-party 140W ≠ Apple’s MW2M3AM/A SKU Cable Keep using your USB-C to MagSafe 3 cable, or a 240W USB-C charge cable into Thunderbolt (Nov 2023+)
  • If you lost… Only the MagSafe 3 cable Buy Apple USB-C to MagSafe 3 Cable (2 m), or a 240W USB-C charge cable for Thunderbolt charging Keep Your 140W brick — the cable is sold separately when you buy the adapter alone
  • If you want… Apple’s ~50% in ~30 min fast-charge class on 16″ Pro Buy 140W — Apple OEM or 140W GaN with MagSafe 3 or 240W USB-C cable Skip Relying on a lone 100W brick as “fast charge” — Apple’s 16″ list is 140W, not 96W/100W
  • If you already have… A 65W–100W GaN brick and an e-marked USB-C cable Do It can still charge the 16″ Pro over USB-C PD; confirm single-port map still delivers laptop watts when phones share ports Know It is below Apple’s included 140W class for all-day Pro use and listed fast charge
