Dell Precision USB-C charger wattage

Current Dell Precision 3490, 3591 and 5690 laptops list a 100W USB-C adapter, so a 100W USB-C charger matches (integrated-graphics 3490s can ship with 65W); Precision 7680 uses a 180W/240W barrel brick that USB-C cannot replace.

Dell’s own manuals list USB-C adapters for current Precision mobile workstations: 65 W (20 V/3.25 A) on integrated-graphics Precision 3490, 100 W (20 V/5 A) on Precision 3490, 3591 and 5690, 130 W (20 V/6.50 A) on Precision 3490 and 3591, and 165 W (28 V/5.89 A) on Precision 5690. Read the wattage printed on your lost brick. A 100W USB-C PD charger covers the 100 W adapters; on 130 W or 165 W configs it still runs and charges the laptop (Dell lists 45 W as the minimum), just slower under heavy load, and Dell may show a low-wattage warning. Standard 20 V USB-C PD stops at 100 W, so a third-party charger cannot match Dell’s 20 V/6.50 A 130 W brick; for the Precision 5690 165 W option, a 140W USB-C PD 3.1 (28 V) charger with a 240W cable is the closest third-party class, still under Dell’s 165 W optimum.

Precision 7680 is different: Dell lists only 180 W and 240 W adapters with a 7.4 mm barrel. A USB-C charger is not a replacement for that brick — buy the matching Dell barrel adapter. Sister Dell pages: Dell Latitude, Dell Vostro, Dell Inspiron, Dell XPS 13. Full method: how to pick.
