Dell XPS 16 charger: which wattage to buy

Buy a 100W USB-C PD charger for the 2026 Dell XPS 16 (DA16260): Dell says it needs 100 W for optimal performance (under 75 W charges slower; 45 W is the minimum). The older XPS 16 9640 uses Dell’s own 130W USB-C adapter.

Full answer

The 2026 Dell XPS 16 (DA16260) charges over USB-C. Dell’s setup and specifications guide has a power-adapter requirements table for anyone not using the Dell-branded adapter: 100 W for optimal performance, less than 75 W charges the computer at a slower speed (a warning may appear), and 45 W is the minimum to operate the computer and charge the battery. USB Power Delivery fast charging is supported, and ExpressCharge needs the 70 Wh battery plus a 100 W adapter. So a 100W USB-C PD charger with a 5A (e-marked) cable is the match. A 65W brick still works as a lighter travel charger, just slower.

XPS 16 9640 (2024): Dell’s owner’s manual lists a 130W USB Type-C adapter with a 20 V/6.5 A output — more current than the 5 A a standard USB-C PD charger delivers at 20 V. Dell’s 9640 manual has no power table for non-Dell chargers, so we don’t sell a third-party charger as the 9640 fix. If you have a 9640, replace it with Dell’s own 130W USB-C adapter (no Dell price is shown on this page).
